Extended Spectrum Beta-Lactamase (ESBL) & Carbapenemase Producing Organisms (CPO) Antimicrobial importance
Our EasyScreen™ range of Antimicrobial resistance products are in-vitro nucleic acid amplification assays for the qualitative detection of ESBL, CPO & MCR pathogens.
Beta-lactam antibiotics are the most commonly used antibiotics worldwide for the treatment of bacterial infections. Extended Spectrum Beta-Lactamase (ESBL) producing organisms hydrolyse cephalosporins, penicillins and aztreonam, rendering them ineffective for treatment of infected patients. Carbapenem based antibiotics have become the first line choice in the treatment of ESBL infections. Of significant global concern therefor is the emergence of carbapenem resistant bacteria in healthcare settings, as standard treatments may be rendered ineffective. This makes accurate and timely detection of ESBL and Carbapenemase Producing Organisms (CPO) important as it will have a significant impact on patient management.
EasyScreen™ ESBL/CPO targets (BL001)
Pan-CTX-M | Oxa-23 like | Oxa-51 like | Pan-CMY |

The kits also include both an Extraction Control and an Internal Positive Control for each sample to ensure the quality of the extracted DNA and to detect the presence of any inhibitors, respectively.

Pathogens containing an MCR gene, confer resistance to the antibiotic Colistin, which has been designated a highest-priority antibiotic by the United Nations' World Health Organization, and is considered a “last resort” treatment. Detecting resistance to this is an extremely important step in Antimicrobial stewardship procedures.
Molecular methods offer the advantages of rapidity and the ability to detect pathogens regardless of growth requirements. The Genetic Signatures EasyScreen™ MCR Detection kit (MC001) has been designed to screen for 6 MCR resistant targets.

These kits also include an Extraction Control in the reaction mix in order to determine the reliability of the extracted nucleic acids and indicate the presence of any inhibitors after extraction from primary samples.
