Assistant Accountant

We seek a detail-oriented and proactive Assistant Accountant to join our Finance & Operations team on a part-time basis (22.8 hours per week).
Genetic Signatures improves patient care and outcomes by developing innovative diagnostic technologies that simplify molecular pathology.
We are an Australian-based manufacturer supplying leading pathology laboratories locally and globally, and we are continuing to grow our diverse, supportive and high-performing team.
We are now seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Assistant Accountant to join our Finance & Operations team on a part-time basis (22.8 hours per week). Additional hours may be required from time to time to support business needs. This role plays a critical part in supporting day-to-day transactional accounting, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and maintaining strong financial controls across the organisation.
In this role you will be responsible for:
- Processing supplier invoices, ensuring accurate coding, GST treatment and approvals
- Performing purchase order matching and reconciling supplier statements
- Managing employee expense claims and corporate credit cards
- Assisting with BAS, GST and FBT preparation
- Supporting payroll coordination, data entry and reconciliations
- Preparing journals, accruals and prepayments
- Completing balance sheet reconciliations (bank, credit card, accruals, etc.)
- Supporting month-end close activities and audit preparation
- Maintaining finance master data in ERP systems (SAP Business One preferred)
- Contributing to continuous improvement of finance processes and controls
To be successful as our Assistant Accountant, you will possess:
- 1–3 years’ experience in accounts payable, assistant accountant or similar role
- Understanding of accounting principles including AP, reconciliations and GST
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Intermediate Excel skills and experience working with ERP systems
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- A proactive approach and ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Commerce or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
- Experience with SAP Business One or similar ERP systems is advantageous
- Exposure to biotech, medical devices or life sciences environment is desirable
- Working towards CA or CPA qualification is advantageous
